Good fan BUT CFL and GU24 Type of bulb bad design

Let me start by saying that Hunter makes solid fans but this particular fan and any other that uses a GU24 CFL is poor design choice for those intending to use a dimming feature and those expecting to use inexpensive replacement CFLs. GU24 type of bulb is NOT your standard screw-in type these have two knubs on base that locks bulb into place. At first this sounded like a solid idea BUT these are expensive bulbs $7 to $15 each and not sold everywhere. Hunter uses its proprietary low profile GU24 CFL, Lowes and Homedepot but selection is slim.CFL bulbs will blow/burn out if you have use dimmable switch or remote. I learned the hard way and burned out 3 bulbs...1 exploded. The surging in current put out by a dimmable switch burns out the CFL bulb. Now you may think that getting a dimmable CFL would solve the problem but they don't make a dimmable GU24 CFL and if you do find one i'm guessing it would be TOO TALL and won't fit in the hanger bracket of the fan. Hunter has it's own LOW PROFILE CFL that comes with this fan. Then I found a GU24 base adapter that converts to a screw-in base blub BUT because of the added 1" of the adapter standard CFL won't fit...too tall!!I called Hunter and they said they don't have a remote or wall switch for this fan. I then sent a send email their TECHNICAL support and they replied "we can not recommend a control from another manufactureer for light dimming...this fan is design for on/off operation." obviously Hunter didn't think this through on this feature.I finally found a LUTRON fan/light wall switch that had a on/off light switch (no dimming feature) and a 3 speed fan speed slide. Although this wasn't intended for a CFL I tried it anyway as my only alternative was to buy a different fan...hasn't blown out bulb...yet.I would NOT buy this fan or any fan that uses a GU24 CFL bulb in the future.

Super fan

We ordered three of these for our home redecorating project. They had the best price and the delivery was free and quick. Our electrician installed them, one in the den, one in the bedroom and one in the kitchen. They run so quiet they can hardly be heard during the night in the bedroom and the air flow is just what we wanted on thee warm nights. Buy one, you will like it.

handsome fan

It looks really good but will be difficult to change the bulb or clean the bowl without an assistant on another ladder. Basically you have to hold the bowl with one hand and then string both chains through the holes whilst screwing on the finial. Extremely difficult.Something is rubbing and fan has stopped spinning. Hopefully this is something that can be fixed by the installer.
