Does the job at a good price!

Ordered the fan through Amazon (Del Mar) and got it for a great price. Fan looks and functions well in a 14' x 14' foot room with 10' ceiling. Only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is because of the special light bulb it takes (although it is energy efficient) and because it can only be controlled through the remote control (outside of turning it on at the wall). Overall, very happy with it and will likely order a 2nd one for another room.

Poorly designed, bad remote control

I had this fan installed three days ago. The cheap CFL bulb that it comes with already blew out today (and it's a specialty bulb that I will have to order online.) The fan is so badly designed that it is almost impossible to get the glass globe over the bulb on and off. The metal ring is too tight, and when you try to rotate the globe to release it the entire lower piece of the housing starts to unscrew. The installers had a really hard time getting the globe on, and in order to get it off I had to stick a screwdriver in to pry back the metal ring, cracking the glass in the process. So now I need a new bulb AND a new globe.The remote doesn't always work, and in order to make turn off the fan off you have to push the "high" button, wait a second, then "medium," another second, then "low," wait, then "off."The single 19-watt CFL bulb is really too dim for an overhead light behind such a thick frosted glass globe.

Great fan, but horrible instructions and horrible assembly

Once this fan is installed, it works well and looks great. The specialty bulb is a loser, and the fact the light cannot be switched independently from the wall switch is poor design. THere are also several important omissions in the poorly written instructions. The remote receiver needs to be laboriously wired to the fan (approximately 10 separate wires, poorly labeled). It took two senior Electrical Engineers 4 hours to install this fan, so plan on paying a few hundred bucks or more for an installation. Sadly, the fan looks great and works great once installed, but has some major issues in the instructions, assembly and light bulb choice. Most important instruction take away, there was a clever way to hook the heavy fan to the mounting plate prior to putting in the final mounting screws. Without this hook, it would take three tall weightlifters standing on ladders to hold the fan while screwing in the final mounting screws. THe other take away, secure the large wire bundles using the supplied twist ties prior to stuffing them back into the fan housing. Dont plan on installing this fan with your spouse if your marriage is on the rocks!
