Great fan, ultra quiet

We purchased 2 of these after buying a couple Hunter fans in the past. These are top quality fans, both in looks and built quality. Even on high, you can barely hear them. The half globe instead of the 4 individual lights make it look a bit more 'normal' instead of your typical ceiling fan which is a nice touch. The CFL bulb is also nice for the energy conscience consumer.

Poor quality light

I bought this fan about a year ago and was disappointed to discover it uses a special light bulb. But I decided to use it anyway. After a few months the light began flickering. I contacted the company and they sent me a replacement light wiring segment. I had to take the fan apart and reinstall it, and that seemed to solve the problem. But a few months later it started again, so I decided to track down the special bulb, which of course was more expensive than most because it has a snap-in base rather than the traditional screw-in base. I installed the new bulb about six months ago. This morning, it bagan flickering again. What a pain this has been.Update, a two months later. The flickering stopped, so I left it alone. But yesterday the light began smoking and upon checking, I discovered the bulb base had fallen apart. Today I installed another new bulb and, sure enough, it is flickering. I strongly recommend against buying a lamp with a snap-in bulb such as this one.Update, another year later. Hunter eventually sent me a complete replacement. By the way, the fan has never been a problem - just the flickering light. It's been installed for about six months now, and it seems to be working fine.

Do not buy!

We bought two of these fans. The way the light bulb goes into the opening means that it slips out of alignment just slightly all the time. We are quite used to getting up on a chair and moving the bulb slightly so that it works. The pull cord on the fan and light are both very hard to pull. For a while there was just one member of our family that could change the setting on the fan. Maybe they have loosened up a bit or maybe we are out-foxing the switch. I can now turn the fan's setting most of the time, our strong teenager doesn't try.The fan looks beeautiful. Until they change the design of the light bulb and the pull chains, I would buy any other fan than this. The light bulb just burned out. Our huge discount hardware store doesn't carry these odd bulbs. Looks like I'll have to fill up an amazon order to $25 or pay shipping for one bulb. We have owned the fans 16 months.
