5great product
By D. Ross
First time installing my own ceiling fan, so I had hoped that a product called 5-minute fan would be an easy first attempt. I bought two fans for two different rooms with angled ceilings. It took me 1 hour for the first fan, and 20 minutes for the 2nd fan. I was very happy with the product in regards to cost, ease of installation, and well written instructions. I had chosen the brand hunter as a recommendation from a friend that used to own a ceiling fan store. When I told him I got the 5-minute brand, he gave me a big thumbs up on my decision. the blades are dual sided with a dark brown and light brown side which I thought was a nice touch. Very elegant design, and I am very happy with the results. Only negative thing I have is that in each of the box one of the bulbs were broken. The manufacture does offer to send a free one, but I just found it easier to go to the store and pick a couple up.

4Great fan, but not a five-minute job
By David Loy
The fan arrived undamaged and in good shape. I took down the old fan, and then allotted about an hour to hang the new one. Let's just say that an hour wasn't enough. I finally called in a friend to help, and two hours later we had it all done. (Life would have been easier if the house builder had installed a junction box!) This is not a five-minute job, at least not for me.On the other hand, the fan works beautifully. It moves lots of air (even my friend noticed that right away), it looks great, and the motor is very quiet. We use it with a wall-mounted speed control, and it works just fine (be sure to set the fan to the highest setting first).

5Great fan with quality issues, read review before you decide.
By G. Laird
I gave this a 5 star because; its pretty, its quiet (slightest motor hum), provides sufficient air flow compared to a 44" model, it could have been installed easily (definitely read below), and they even included the bulbs. I envision 2 types of buyers. If you are electrically and mechanically adept, this will be straight forward to install (It took me 1.5 hrs to hang this unit, another 2 hrs previous to build the supports and wire the box.). If you are like the average person, and lacking in either home improvement skills, this can be self installable, but definitely read below. Next shame on the Hunter Fan Co. for outsourcing and getting exactly what they deserve; sloppy quality that rendered this fan unusable if I did not have better than average skills as above. Did Hunter's V.P. get a bonus for this disservice to their customers? Most of this info is in the instructions, but then that is after you make the decision to buy or not to buy. How to fix and install a Hunter fan, that can be a really nice addition to your home: 1) 2 sets of screws did not fit. To get past this, assemble the entire fan on a work bench the day before you intend to install it, as a mock up, and find the places where sloppy quality control will force you to go to the hardware store for fastners. Segueing to (2). 2) To configure the fan in "low profile", the 3 screws provided (#8-32 x 3/4) had too large of heads to fit the profile washer. I had some smaller head screws, but you may have to buy replacements. 3) The tapered head screws, to fasten the light assembly, did not fit the sloppy over sized threads on the fan motor base unit. You'll need to compare the supplied screws with slightly larger diameter sheet metal screws (w/phillips head), of the correct exterior color (since they show), to attach the lamp unit. You will be carving out your own threads by doing this. But the screws should hold the weight of the lamp unit, forever. Before you hang the fan, the instructions describe in some detail those steps you need to perform to prepare the site: 1) Most tract homes install far too weak of supports for the junction box, that standard cheap light fixtures hang from. You have to use a junction box to meet electrical code. You have to assure that your ceiling has sufficient support to hold the hefty weight of this unit. 2) I cut 2 2x4's to length and fastened them between the two ceiling joist above my installation site, with "deck screws". I fastened the junction box with simple wood screws to those 2x4's. I used thumb tacks and string, drew an "X" across my entire ceiling to locate the center. I poked a very stiff wire through the ceiling sheet rock, so I could identify the site inside the ceiling crawl space. I went from there. 3) If you have no light fixture in the chosen site, you are on your own (my legal escape clause) and should get an electrician and contractor to install the junction box and wire it with the options for switched or unswitched as you desire. There are simple books on home electrical wiring that a mechanically adept person can follow and prepare the electrical connections. Turn off the breaker to that zone of the house before you start wiring!! In the end, I'm happy with my purchase. I do wish I didn't have to do engineering for Hunter without being compensated.
