Beautiful ceiling fan for the price!

We bought a new home and had lots of DIY project to do for updating. We were going for a uniform look through out the house, so we purchased five of these fans. I've installed ceiling fans before and the instructions made it a fairly straight foward process. I changed out all five fans and by the end they were going up fairly quickly. These fans look great and the price was fantastic. Amazon Prime makes this purchase a no brainer!A couple things to consider: We have 10' ceilings and although these fans have plenty of wiring, they do not come with extended downrods. I was able to repurpose the existing downrods so this was not an issue for me but you may need to purchase them. Also in one of our rooms the fan only has a single switch so we actually need to use the pull chains to turn on the fan and light seperately. We bought extensions for these pull chains for around $3.

Great Fan Overall - Couple Minor Issues

Pro's++Incredibly quiet. Kind of amazing actually.++With extended downrod installation, no wobble at all (I can't speak for other installation methods)++Good quality, and looks well constructed.++Installation is about as easy as a ceiling fan can be and instructions are very good.Cons++Purchased an 18" downrod to go with it. No info in the downrod box or the fan box that you need to take apart the socket joint to install it. Eventually figured it out, but could have saved me some time if that step was listed anywhere on the instructions or website.++Light bowl was cracked when it arrived. Hunter is replacing, but lead time is about a month.++2 60W candelabra bulbs are not enough light with the frosted bowl. It is ok in our bedroom since we have other lighting, but that is probably the only real negative if you need bright lighting.

Terrible fluorescent light with no way to replace

The fan itself is plain, but overall it is fine. However, the light fixture in this fan is terrible. It requires a specific type of CFL with a bi-pin base rather than a typical screw in base used by most light bulbs (here is an example [...]). Perhaps if the bulb itself was better it wouldn't be such a big deal, but it gives off a harsh, bluish white light that washes out the room. Since it has the unique bi-pin connector, you can't just replace the bulb with a better or regular incandescent bulb. The bulb also makes an annoying humming sound that makes me feel like I'm in a depressing office building. To boot, I bought a specific switch to use when installing this fan that has a dimmer switch for the light, but since this is a CFL, it can't be dimmed. I am probably going to completely dismantle the whole thing and ship it back because I am really disappointed in this fan. If I had seen anywhere in the fan description some information on this light fixture with this fan, there is no way I would have bought it in the first place.

Nice fan, but not installable in 5 minutes by a long shot

5 Minute Fan is a huge misnomer - It takes a while to install a ceiling fan properly, even if (as in my case) everything has been pre-wired and prepped. It takes 5 minutes just to get the package open and sort out all the hardware. Wiring and mounting the fan is probably another 20-30 min depending on individual circumstances. But I digress, the fan itself is nice, I have two older Hunter ceiling fans that are nearly identical. The older fans are still whisper quiet, as are the new ones, so I have confidence in the quality of Hunter's products.The one "gotcha" on this item that the lighting fixture only supports fluorescent light bulbs. Had this been mentioned ANYWHERE on Amazon's product description I would have searched for a similar fan that uses traditional incandescent light bulbs. Thankfully I don't often use the lights on the fan units, so it isn't a major upset, but it should definitely be called out somewhere.

Though it looks good, hard to install

There's no way this fan was a simple thing to put on and no way its close to five minutes(though I didn't expect it to really be 5 minutes of course). The instructions were confusing and there was this extra piece which we couldn't figure out if we needed it or not. Also, once its on if you have to make any adjustments it is super hard. Things were locked in place and almost impossible to remove and then the top of the base has holes so when we unscrewed one of the screws of the top canopy thing, it fell inside the middle base through the hole and is still there as it was impossible to take out unless we took the whole thing off. In the end I'm sure its not more difficult to put than another fan but the point is don't advertise this as a simpler to install fan and then it turns out to be a headache. Basically I'm giving it low scores because of the false advertisement otherwise it looks good and functions well.
